19 August 2024
The 12th edition of the Glacier Storms River Traverse, hosted from 9 to 11 August 2024, brought together mountain bike enthusiasts from all quarters - seasoned riders as well as novice beginners. Energy, excitement and an abiding sense of camaraderie, once again characterised the stage race in the beautiful Tsitsikamma region, which has become a much-anticipated event on mountain biking calendars. Despite the rain and mud, riders enthusiastically tackled the three-day event, crossing the finish line a bit grubby but exuberant, and the celebration throughout the weekend of Women’s Day made the event even more special. Of the 180 riders, 35% were women.
This year, the Mixed category saw many couples riding together, with partners participating in both e-bike and traditional bike divisions. While their parents hit the trails, junior riders buzzed around the race village on balance bikes, first pedal bikes, and miniature mountain bikes.
The Safety and Tourism Oversight Regulatory Management System (STORMS) NPC received a donation from Glacier, for the work that they do to ensure the safety of tourists and the community in the breathtaking region. To keep the children entertained, STORM hosted forest hikes, while the Dryland Event Management team led outrides, allowing kids to ride the final kilometre with their parents.
The winners in the Women’s category, are already excited to return in 2025 with their families. The Glacier Storms River Traverse 2024 was an epic event all round with myriad memories made by all who attended.
