An important part of the programme at the second Glacier Investment Summit Mpumalanga & Limpopo held in Dullstroom on 5 and 6 September 2024, was the charity auction that was held at the Summit dinner. The auction items, donated by Glacier and our asset and fund management partners who presented at the event, ranged from the most delicious wine to a Weber braai to a trip for two to the Kruger National Park, and spending time with a rhino anti-poaching squad on a monitoring mission.
We are pleased to report that the charity auction raised just short of R87 000. And every cent will be donated to the Foundation for a Sustainable Future, a non-profit organisation that we have been supporting for a number of years. The funds will be used to collar lions, the magnificent wildlife royalty that we need to protect at all cost.
Why are we supporting this initiative?
Lions escaping from the Kruger National Park is a problem not only for the surrounding community and their livestock, but also for the lions themselves. The aim of the initiative is to collar lions in areas where the risk of escape is the greatest, to ensure that the lions can be tracked. The collars serve a dual purpose: when the lions are close to the perimeter fence, the rangers can be alerted to their presence, and if they do escape, they are easy to track. Once the lions are located, they are darted and returned to the park.
Glacier is focused growing and preserving wealth – now, and for generations to come.
Glacier’s support to SANParks started around 2022, when we sponsored a dog named Missile, part of Project K9, which was an important initiative in rhino anti-poaching. It is our intention to support these worthy causes for many years to come.
We are passionate about preserving our wildlife and preventing the trauma and death of many of the beautiful creatures that roam our national parks. While Glacier’s business vision is to create and preserve wealth for clients, our objective also is to do our bit to preserve South Africa’s natural wealth, so that future generations can also enjoy it. Glacier is passionate about being a part of it.
