The X factor: it’s the difference between being born male or female if you’re human. While a boy has just one X chromosome, a girl has two. For many women around the globe, that extra little X chromosome has determined so much in so many areas of their lives. At Glacier, we understand the challenges that women continue to overcome to claim their spaces in their homes, communities and places of work. We recognise that everyone is different and that no two women’s stories are the same. This is even more significant in financial planning where every woman’s dreams, financial needs and investment goals are different to her sister’s.
It makes sense then for women to have knowledge and an appropriately authorised adviser to help avoid the pitfalls on their journeys to financial wisdom and confidence in investing. It’s the key to moving from surviving to thriving.
At the Glacier Women’s Day event hosted by Cindy de Kock CFP®, dozens of intermediaries and their clients celebrated the special day and were treated to a morning of insights from experts at Glacier and beyond. We welcomed Chantelle Baptiste, equity portfolio manager at Fairtree, who presented an overview of the local and global economy, while Di Seccombe, national head of Taxation at Forvis Mazars, helped us know what to be aware of on the tax front during marriage and when we get divorced. Hannah Wilson, co-founder and director at Simplifi Law, examined the part that knowing your marital regime plays in financial planning, while Madalet Sessions, portfolio manager at Denker Capital unpacked what a rich life looks like when we embrace our strengths. In the panel discussion, moderated by Siba Mgijima CFP®️, business development manager at Glacier, Hannah Wilson and Di Seccombe expanded on what might happen when a woman’s marriage and/or divorce, her money, the law and tax liability intersect.
